Summer Part 3

I flew to Magaluf in Mallorca. Though the experience wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, it was still a beautiful place to spend a few weeks!

From there I flew to Barcelona, which I fell in love with immediately!

From Barcelona I embarked on a whirlwind road trip with one of my best friends. We drove through southern France, stopped for a night in Pisa, and then across Italy to Ancona. We took a ferry from there to Split, Croatia!

After a few nights in Split we drove to Dubrovnik. The girls went up north, and I travelled the Dalmatian Coast for another week before returning to Dublin.

Summer Part 2

I was lucky enough to go home for a month! It was lovely to spend time with friends and family and enjoy the golden Ontario summer.

Summer Part 1

What a hectic summer it was! Part 1 of my summer involved 3.5 weeks of travel with one of my best friends from home. We started by seeing a little more of Ireland, with a trip out west to Galway, and then up North to see the Giants Causeway and Belfast.

We then flew out to Amsterdam to meet some good friends, and from there traveled to Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, and Zagreb.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Hostel

So you’ve decided to stay in a hostel (YAY)! Your first step should always be to parooze Hostelworld. It is hands down the best place on the web to choose your perfect hostel. Hostelworld lets you filter the results for the kind of property you’re looking for; it also lets you sort properties by different factors.

Decide what’s most important to you about your hostel. In my experience, the four main factors to consider when choosing a hostel (or any travel accommodation really) are Price, Location, Reviews/ Ratings, Vibe. I’m going to break these down.

Spain & Portugal

Had a whirlwind road trip with my brother through Spain and Portugal. We started in Lisbon, drove across the boarder to Seville, then down to the southernmost point of the Iberian peninsula, Gibraltar. We then spent the next three days making our way back up the coast of Portugal. We spent my birthday in Albufera, and a beach day in Portimao. After sleeping in our camper van for two nights, we spent a day in Lisbon before flying back to Dublin.

Amsterdam

A good friend from high school who also recently moved to Europe called me up and said “lets go to Amsterdam next weekend.” I thought that was one of the best things anyone’s ever said to me. I deliberated for half a second before agreeing. The next weekend there we were, hugging in Amsterdam’s beautiful Centraal station. We spent the next four days wandering canals and alleyways, chatting for hours in coffeeshops, taking in beautiful museums and endless architecture, and of course, following a strict Dutch diet of cheese and waffles. Though we’ve been friends since grade 9, we’ve only lived in the same country for the first year of a friendship that is now almost a decade old.
Thankful for new adventures with old friends.

London

Hurricane Ophelia struck the Emerald Isle the day I was trying to fly back to Dublin from Germany. Then ensued the craziest flying adventure I’ve yet to experience, featuring delays, miscommunications, missed connections, you name it! I finally made it home to Dublin 2 days later, but not without being stranded for a day… in one of the greatest cities on earth. Check out my wanderings in London on flickr
