This simple lyric from the 1975’s latest album got me thinking about a question I often ponder. And the answer is, absolutely. Where you’re born determines your whole life. Your life expectancy, income, your diet, your entire perspective and outlook. Your religion, the things you believe, the communities and collective memories that you subscribe to (willingly or not). Your entire existence is determined by where you are from. I’m fascinated by this. Because I’m not really from anywhere. Because lots of people I love also aren’t from anywhere or are from lots of places. Where you’re from is Almost Everything. I exist inside that “almost”. It sets me apart from my extended family members, from people I’ve encountered along the way.
I often wonder about what makes a TCK unique. What sets this small demographic of individuals apart from millions of other global migrants. Immigrants like my grandparents, economic migrants, first and second generation immigrants, drifters and wanderers, etc. I believe that what makes being a TCK unique isn’t what you leave behind (because humans are constantly leaving things behind). It’s in what you struggle to retain or get back.

Had a fantastic time in Edinburgh with my travel wife! Got me feeling 24 and excited for life 🙂
My New (and first!) Single is streaming everywhere! West Coast, here I come!
As someone who has moved around a lot, many of my songs have themes of travel, adventure, and longing. This song was inspired by an urge to hit the road, which was inspired by a breakup, which then inspired romanticizing far away places, and the way that we’ll feel if we ever get there. Like a lot of my music, this was a family affair. My Dad produced and tracked the song. My Uncle Mike (one of the best sax players in the country) completes the tune with playful melodies and killer riffs. This song has been a road trip in itself. My vocal was recorded in Niagara, the rest of the song was tracked and produced in Singapore, the sax part recorded in Toronto, and it is now being released in Dublin. I hope you enjoy my first single, West Coast!

I flew to Magaluf in Mallorca. Though the experience wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, it was still a beautiful place to spend a few weeks!
From there I flew to Barcelona, which I fell in love with immediately!
From Barcelona I embarked on a whirlwind road trip with one of my best friends. We drove through southern France, stopped for a night in Pisa, and then across Italy to Ancona. We took a ferry from there to Split, Croatia!
After a few nights in Split we drove to Dubrovnik. The girls went up north, and I travelled the Dalmatian Coast for another week before returning to Dublin.
I was lucky enough to go home for a month! It was lovely to spend time with friends and family and enjoy the golden Ontario summer.
What a hectic summer it was! Part 1 of my summer involved 3.5 weeks of travel with one of my best friends from home. We started by seeing a little more of Ireland, with a trip out west to Galway, and then up North to see the Giants Causeway and Belfast.
We then flew out to Amsterdam to meet some good friends, and from there traveled to Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, and Zagreb.
