“Am I me through geography?”

This simple lyric from the 1975’s latest album got me thinking about a question I often ponder. And the answer is, absolutely. Where you’re born determines your whole life. Your life expectancy, income, your diet, your entire perspective and outlook. Your religion, the things you believe, the communities and collective memories that you subscribe to (willingly or not). Your entire existence is determined by where you are from. I’m fascinated by this. Because I’m not really from anywhere. Because lots of people I love also arent from anywhere or are from lots of places. Where you’re from is Almost Everything. I exist inside that “almost”. It sets me apart from my extended family members, from people I’ve encountered along the way.

I often wonder about what makes a TCK unique. What sets this small demographic of individuals apart from millions of other global migrants. Immigrants like my grandparents, economic migrants, first and second generation immigrants, drifters and wanderers etc. I believe that what makes being a TCK unique isn’t what you leave behind (because humans are constantly leaving things behind). It’s in what you struggle to retain or get back.

West Coast Streaming Everywhere!

My New (and first!) Single is streaming everywhere! West Coast, here I come!

west coast-4

As someone who has moved around a lot, many of my songs have themes of travel, adventure, and longing. This song was inspired by an urge to hit the road, which was inspired by a breakup, which then inspired romanticizing far away places, and the way that we’ll feel if we ever get there. Like a lot of my music, this was a family affair. My Dad produced and tracked the song. My Uncle Mike (one of the best sax players in the country) completes the tune with playful melodies and killer riffs. This song has been a road trip in itself. My vocal was recorded in Niagara, the rest of the song was tracked and produced in Singapore, the sax part recorded in Toronto, and it is now being released in Dublin. I hope you enjoy my first single, West Coast!

Summer Part 3

I flew to Magaluf in Mallorca. Though the experience wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, it was still a beautiful place to spend a few weeks!

From there I flew to Barcelona, which I fell in love with immediately!

From Barcelona I embarked on a whirlwind road trip with one of my best friends. We drove through southern France, stopped for a night in Pisa, and then across Italy to Ancona. We took a ferry from there to Split, Croatia!

After a few nights in Split we drove to Dubrovnik. The girls went up north, and I travelled the Dalmatian Coast for another week before returning to Dublin.

Summer Part 2

I was lucky enough to go home for a month! It was lovely to spend time with friends and family and enjoy the golden Ontario summer.

Summer Part 1

What a hectic summer it was! Part 1 of my summer involved 3.5 weeks of travel with one of my best friends from home. We started by seeing a little more of Ireland, with a trip out west to Galway, and then up North to see the Giants Causeway and Belfast.

We then flew out to Amsterdam to meet some good friends, and from there traveled to Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, and Zagreb.

Dublin in Springtime

My last few weeks in Dublin were hectic! I was working on my EP stuff, and had some lovely visitors from afar. I co-hosted and planned a charity gig. We had 10 bands, a full night of music, and were able to raise money for an amazing cause, Together for Better Days. I played a full set with the Kicks.

The day before I flew out, we did some recording at the beautiful Camden Studios! It was great to have these last two hurrahs before the summertime.

Summer Ep is Live!

Ecstatic to announce that my Summer EP is alive and out everywhere! After months of writing, rehearsing, recording, post production, and navigating the treacherous waters of a first release, the EP is streaming everywhere! I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience of releasing music on my own, nor more grateful that its finally into the world. I am so thankful for everyone who contributed to this project. Thank you hank you thank you. Music is a team sport, and for me the most important thing about making art is who you do it with.
Visit the Summer EP page on my website to read more about the project, see album art, creds, and streaming info.
