West Coast Streaming Everywhere!

My New (and first!) Single is streaming everywhere! West Coast, here I come!

west coast-4

As someone who has moved around a lot, many of my songs have themes of travel, adventure, and longing. This song was inspired by an urge to hit the road, which was inspired by a breakup, which then inspired romanticizing far away places, and the way that we’ll feel if we ever get there. Like a lot of my music, this was a family affair. My Dad produced and tracked the song. My Uncle Mike (one of the best sax players in the country) completes the tune with playful melodies and killer riffs. This song has been a road trip in itself. My vocal was recorded in Niagara, the rest of the song was tracked and produced in Singapore, the sax part recorded in Toronto, and it is now being released in Dublin. I hope you enjoy my first single, West Coast!

Summer Ep is Live!

Ecstatic to announce that my Summer EP is alive and out everywhere! After months of writing, rehearsing, recording, post production, and navigating the treacherous waters of a first release, the EP is streaming everywhere! I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience of releasing music on my own, nor more grateful that its finally into the world. I am so thankful for everyone who contributed to this project. Thank you hank you thank you. Music is a team sport, and for me the most important thing about making art is who you do it with.
Visit the Summer EP page on my website to read more about the project, see album art, creds, and streaming info.

EP Recording

Had a blast recording my EP with some very talented dudes, who also happen to be my best friends in Ireland. But I did know for sure that before I left Ireland, I wanted a piece of work that I’m proud of, one that reflects me and the things I want to do with music, my new-found sound, my best work to date. And, if possible, to produce that piece of work with the guys who helped me bring it to life. My parents were coming to visit at the end of March. I proposed a crazy idea to my Dad, who has been producing my music for years, to help record the three song EP while here, then bring the music back to Singapore for post-production. To my delight, he was all on board. It was one of my favourite life experiences, 3 full days in the studio, plenty of laughs. To me, music is about the people you’re making it with. That’s why I decided to give credit to the Kicks, the people who made this project possible, and more importantly, fun.

New Music!

Two new songs I’m really proud of! The idea for “Funny Feeling” came into my head within my first few hours of walking around Dublin. I remember leaving the hostel after dropping off my stuff, stepping out onto D’Olier street and just standing there looking out at this busy street, sun peeking through the clouds, bikes and busses and horses going by and just thinking oh god, what did I just do! Brand new city, all on my own, didn’t know a soul, left everything I knew behind and literally hopped on a plane with my guitar and adventure in my soul and landed here. A funny feeling indeed! I preformed “Funny Feeling” at BIMM Live & Lyrical auditions, an was assessed for my performance and song.

“Stone Fortress” has been kicking around my head for a couple years, but I couldn’t quite figure out how I wanted it to sound, what kind of groove I wanted to go with. After a last minute change of plans in what song I was going to audition with for the End of Term Gig, (a non-assessed performance, but those successful play at one of the biggest BIMM gigs of the year), I needed a groovy song fast!

Lastly, here is me and the boys playing a song by Cian McDaid, “Knots.” Cain’s song was chosen for the Live and Lyrical gig! Check it out on Youtube

Recording Woes

A very exclusive peak into my home studio! I came up with this simple, jazzy chord progression a few days ago, thought I might lay down something quick, add a melody and some lyrics that didnt make sense, nothing fancy! Didnt expect it to take me all day, but alas, thats the nature of recording! Its the precision of it all that makes it so difficult. One string rings for half a second too long, a note buzzes in a way you didnt like, your entrance is quarter beat late… and you start all over! It takes immense amounts of patience. And if you know me, you know that patience isn’t my strong suit. Maybe this is an exercise in it then. It makes you gain a respect for incredible tracks. The amount of precision and effort required to make things sound effortless. It is amazing though, the kind of things you can produce in a bedroom these days. I’ve seen a range of home studios since being in Dublin, from very humble to quite advanced. Recorded musical magic can happen from the comfort of the home, and these days anyone can become a bedroom producer.
